In June, 2015, a few months before the Paris Climate Agreement, Pope Francis published, “‘Laudato Si’ (On Care for Our Common Home),” the first papal encyclical to focus specifically on the environment.
To make sense of this letter (an encyclical is a papal letter that gets circulated, thus the “cyclical” part of the term), I spoke with one of the leading experts on the subject, Christiana Zenner, Associate Professor of Theology, Science and Ethics in the Department of Theology at Fordham University.
